Feels like New-York, Greasy House Hamburger Steak
서울먹거리
Last Modified : 2020/05/30

Do you watch American TV shows or movies? There are many of them set in New York. Which I've never been to, but seems as close as Gangnam Station, probably because I've seen it a lot from movies or TV shows.

'Greasy House', a hamburger steak restaurant seems to be a hidden place

which only some people know(I guess it's only me who didn't know this place).

Greasy House is located in an alley called 'Songridan-gil' near Seokchon Lake and has became a hot place. In fact, there are a lot of old buildings around this area, so the sophisticated exterior of Greasy House mismatch with this location.

At the entrance. there is a plaque that says this place was selected as a

master of hamburger steak by 'SBS Life Master(A TV show, introducing people who have special skills)'!

I'm excited to be able to taste the disshes made by a master.

I feel like I'm in a movie set when I get inside.

There are various retro-style picture frames hanging on the wall. The orange lighting will make portrait pictures look better, so half of the guests were couples.

It's 7 in the afternoon. Most of the tables are crowded with guests. The number of tables is only six or seven, and by the time I started eating, it there were a couple of waiting guests.

The table spacing is narrow, so I can't help hearing the next table.

The memnu is relatively simple.

The menu is subdivided according to what is added to the basic hamburger steak, then the size is different from M and XL.

I ordered the most popular menu, 'Galic Hamburger Steak' with additional cheese and coke.

I value the harmony with coke for this kind of western food.

The coke in Greasy House is a cute little bottle.

A bottle of beer would be great if you don't drive.

And, a little later...

Ta-da!

It's lots of garlic, isn't it? While some other restaurants just add garlic flavor, Greasy House generously adds garlic chips and grilled garlic.

Let's dig into it carefully.

The bottom is rice, and there is mesh potato on it as glue, so the hamburger steak does't slide down from the rice. And baked pineapple and onion, and sauce on it. Lastly, sunny side up egg fires are placed on the top and fixed with bamboo skewers. Roasted chives wrap around the dish. It's a rich and delicious visual.

The cheese goes well with hamburger steak. I recommend to add it.

The most important thing, hamburger steak! It is made of 100 percent beef, so the chew was soft and great.

I was like 'Wouldn't it be quite greasy?' because of the name of the restaurant, but it teastes juicy and not uncomfortably greasy. They must be a master for a reason.

The vegetables are cooked very well. Roasted garlic also is sweet.

The pickles, which seem to have been made by themselves. were good for both taste and texture.

However, the grilled chives are tough and hard to swallow.

Decorating with chives looks nice, but I wanted them to be something else like asparagus or broccoli.

Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food are all satisfying.

  • Food ★★★★☆

A generous plate with a juicy hamburger steak

  • Cleanliness ★★★★☆
An open kitchen with full of confidence. However, the building is rather old. Especially, you need to go to another building for the restroom.

  • Service ★★★★☆

The manner and tone of the staff is as good as a fancy restaurant

  • Ambience ★★★★☆

The atmosphere in the store is like a restaurant in New York that I saw in the movie. Recommended for a date.

  • Accessibility ★★★☆☆

Seven minutes walk from exit 1 of Seokchon Station on line 8. It's on a side road. Lack of parking space and in the middle of one-way traffic.

  • Open Hours: 11:30~22:00
  • Recommending for 2 or more people
  • Recommding: Garlic Hamburger Steak
  • Value: 10,000 won and a half or more per 1 person
  • Amenities: Wifi
