In fact, I didn’t know about this town at all before I visited here so I thought why would anyone go here. I visited a few film sites that look like old towns. However…I like photography…and now, I don’t regret dropping by the town. (Well, you must know how I am by now.)
Let’s explore the past this time. :D

a banner at the entrance to Whale Culture Village. Wow, it’s soooo
big. It shows the history of Ulsan and it is designated as a special
district for whaling since it has strong connections with whales way
before the whaling was permitted. I didn’t expect much even then.
Entering
the entrance, you’ll see the sign. It would probably be the west
entrance plaza where I got off. I’ll walk you through Jangsaengpo
Old Town starting now.
This
mural would look out of style in other villages but not in this town
that creates a mysterious atmosphere along with the village name. It
looks sloppy but it’s not…this type of decoration looks
definitely the best when it’s natural. :D
In every street corner leading to the Old Town, you can see these sculptures. And it’s strong enough to stand with kids on it. I liked it that it was not just for display for tourists but also for usage by residents in neighboring apartments. I couldn’t take photos but there was a playground nearby. I guess it makes it a nice promenade for families.
Okay,
let’s keep walking. I’ve been slow ‘cause there are so many
things to see and take photos of.
I saw an information center at the entrance to Jangsaengpo Old Town. I somehow felt thankful for those who work hard. I think they are the ones who made us enjoy traveling to this town.
The
first thing I noticed in the old town was the poster on the wall.
Well, my generation who used to pick up flyers on the street must be
familiar with this poster but young people today might think it’s
very old-fashioned and probably has no idea what that is. :D
Old
bicycle at a hardware store…and it’s rusty…what detailed
props.. -_-=b
Oh…that
TV!!! And that fan!!! I also use a fan that old, actually as old as
me at home. It’s quite useful…I never understood why would
anybody use it when I was a kid..but now that I feel sorry for its
aging, I must’ve been old as well. :D
I
was told it represents bandage and blue and red blood vessels. Some
say it was from the war period. Current beauty parlors look quite
modern but you could’ve seen this barbershop in the alley of a town
merely 10 years ago.
Can
you see? Next to coin slot says 20 won. Wow…it brings up memories!
…it
says Hwarang… guess my father would’ve loved it…
………..Huh?
By the way, there’s Milkis bottle on the right? Wow it’s THAT
old? I can’t think of anything else than Chow Yun Fat era…
Obviously
there hasn’t been many tourists here...but time is like this,
right? There’s nothing special about memories. Everything becomes a
past and then a memory. I wonder if I could be a memory for our next
generation.
Wow…a
portable camera…it looks so cool to see the photographer puts it
inside the jacket to take photos. Not many people think it’s
special but if you once are attracted to this bellows camera…you
won’t be able to get away from it. That’s why I haven’t bought
big cameras…T.T
This
instrument must’ve been used for sailing long time ago. I have no
idea what is it for…but by the look of it…makes us guess how much
itㅡas
small as that isㅡwas
useful on the ocean.
Most
of you have hardly seen this. It’s a pump that actually works now.
When you pour water on the top and move the lever, it brings up the
water from bottom. It works with electric batteries…but if anybody
has ever used this, it tells us how old you are. ;)
There’s
an experience center here as well. We did not stay here cause we were
at the wrong time but I guess it’s a good season to try it.
Wow…this
is an old classroom. The door is too new, though!!! Well…it will be
old soon as well anyway…
It’s
called Borokku…It’s actually block but I’m more used to
Japanese name, Borokku. I remember the world on the other side of
this hole was like a totally new world as a kid…so I always wanted
to look inside the hole. I see there are more facilities over there
but…I was always caught up in the meeting time…T.T
You
see the white sign that says Goraebbang Yeonguso(whale-shaped bun
laboratory)? I had no time to drop by the shop…but whale-shaped
bun…Bungeobbang(fish-shaped bun) does not have fish so this one
should not have whale filling, should it? (Sorry about bad joke…T.T)
