Namcheon Valley 남천계곡

Danyang has lots of beautiful valleys. Mainly, Hanseonam and Sainam which are included in Danyang 8 are in the southwest, Darian and Cheongdong valley are in the south, and Namcheon valley is famous in the northeast. If you go up more, there is Kimsatgat valley in Youngwol, but since we are in Danyang, we have decided to go to Namcheon valley which is also near to Ondal tourist spot.

It took us less than 3 minutes to arrive at the valley. Amount of water was enough and it was very clean despite the fact that it was the lower part of the valley.

This is the deepest part. Other parts of valley are hip high of a man, but this part is about 2m deep. The temperature of the water is cold even during summer.

There is a place ready for camping. Water supply around is good and there is wondumak with valley side view. If you go up the hill, there are pensions and convenient stores.

However, the part of the valley we went was appointed as pleasure ground so we had to pay fixed amount. We cooled off ourselves in the valley and went to Danyang downtown.

Danyang Danuri Center - Fresh Water Aquarium 단양 다누리센터

I was on my way to Danyang downtown after changing my wet clothes. Danyang is located near Namhan river so it's famous for its freshwater fishes. Among thosefreshwater fishes, mandarin is the best and is assigned as the representative fish of Danyang. With their loves loves for freshwater fishes, they built and are operating a fresh water aquarium.

The aquarium is in Danuri center and this center is inside Danyang intercity bus terminal which is located in the middle of the downtown.

This is a big mandarin fish model. It's not just a model; it has stairs in its mouth going to the parking lot at the lower ground floor of Danuri center.

It actually operates until 6pm only, but during peak season, it operates until 9pm. But you have to buy the ticket one hour before. The aquarium has two entrances, but the back entrance is used for exiting so you have to use the front entrance.

Unlike other tourist spots, its ticket price is 8,000won per person. It's a bit expensive. But there are enough things to look at so it's worth the price.

Before I entered, I went to this rest area. There are pictures of Danyang's main tourist spots around this area.

Most tourists are children so they prepared a game tour zone for them.

They also prepared personal lockers for visitors because it's located near bus terminal. Since it's a new building, the facilities were kept good and convenient.

The motto for Danyang is green comma. They wrote name of fish and many tourist spots in the shape of a comma. It was nice.

In front of the ticket booth, they displayed gold mandarin fish model and other models around for picture taking.

I saw this huge aquarium as soon as I entered. It's 8m deep and 651tons in weight. This was the main aquarium here. Actually, I didn't expect that much because it was a fresh water aquarium, but I was surprised to see sturgeon and big fishes.

With the huge aquarium being the center, the direction is that you'll go down to watch around. There is an elevator beside so strollers can easily go and watch around, too. (You can rent a stroller beside the ticket booth for free.)

It's a water tank that downsized Dodamsambong which is the best of the Eight Views of Danyang. There were too many fishes in it. I think the fishes are having a hard time to breath.

This is the mandarin fish which you can easily catch in Danyang and is the main fish of Danyang.

Beside the mandarin fish, there is a water tank for gold mandarin fish which is the natural monument of Namhan river.

These are various freshwater fishes. I should have fished in the place like this.

This is a soft-shelled turtle. There is half water and half air for this water tank because the turtle has to breath.

These are two soft-shelled turtles in the sand. They're so cute.

You can see leopoldi in far which is considered as a black diamond from Amazon.

There is a snapping turtle which lives in Mexico and southern part of America.

It's Hongryong which wishes for your health. Asia's Arowana also appeared.

This is Amazon's king, Pirarucu. It was a huge fish, but it was too fast so it was hard to take a picture of it.

I don't remember its name, but its color was beautiful.

They are piranhas which appear in the movies often. There is a round place under the water tank and you can take a picture with your head put in the round shape place. But there are lots of people waiting to take a picture with it, so you have to wait for a while.

This is where you can actually catch fishes with your hands. They prepared sink and dryer beside it, too. I put my hands, but I was not able to catch any. There are fishes that are quite big, but you can't catch them easily. They usually roam around in the middle where we can't reach with our hands.

Before I exit, I saw this aquarium. In this aquarium, they put a stone gate which is one of Danyang's symbols. You can see sturgeon here. The blue light made the aquarium look more cold.

After roaming around aquarium, if you go down to the first floor, it's connected to fishing museum. This is a huge fish hook. It looks like it can catch a whale with it.

This is where children can experience fishing. They put magnets at the bottom and you would catch a fish with it. It was pretty much realistic. At the back of it, there is a 3D fishing game on the boat.

You will exit at the back of the building. If you goright from the exit, you can go to the sky lounge of the building. There are colorful pinwheels and Gosu bridge.

With this, I finished watching Korea's biggest freshwater aquarium with 82 water tanks and 15,000 fishes (851tons in weight and 130 kinds of fishes) in total. In addition, there is a national contest for fishing mandarin fishes every April so if you love fishing, you may visit Danyang and join the contest in April.
