Have you heard of a man named Roy Chapman Andrews? He’s a famous explorer and a real life Indiana Jones. Ulsan coastal waters were known as a whaling base since a long time ago where this explorer wrote a paper about whales while he stayed in Jangsaengpo for a year in 1912. And Jangsaengpo was like an outpost for whaling. That’s why they have many events and things related to whales.

I’ll walk you through Whale Park to Jangsaengpo Old Town.

That’s a bathroom. You can assume it’s in Whale Park by the look of it, right?

As a part of Whale Park, many sculptures remind you of whales.

This is a ticket office to Jangsaengpo Old Town. This also looks like a whale. ^^

They charge you 1,000 won for each person. I’ll go inside.

It’s not a big town but it was a perfect place to look around and be lost in memories.

By

the way…I am worried that this blows my age…which I just want you

to guess…

When

I was young, it was easy to see this type of bookshop in the country.

These books may be as old as me.

It’s a post office…

By the look of it, it was made way before I was born.

Looks like a restaurant that sold whale meat…

Inside the restaurant looks quite friendly, doesn’t it? I am still fond of this kind of restaurant. ^^

This is how they cut the whale. I guess it would be much more disgusting if it’s real…

This is a barbershop. By the way, the television show Infinite Challenge showed a barbershop like this a while ago.

This is a coffee shop but I felt like I was at a filming site.

Red pay phone…I actually tried to use it. -_-;;;

We had well and water pump that looked just like those in my hometown. But they were not used together like this…well…I guess it’s different in each town.

This looks friendly. A class with the reed organ and a heater…This somehow reminds me of times that I delivered coals with small hands.

I also used to see that kind of posters on the walls.

And it was filled with home appliances that are old as me. These always remind me of old times.

I could see whale bread at the entrance. It’s like fancy fish-shaped bun. It was yummy.

You could also try a stamp tour program. I could not look around because I didn’t have enough time but I want you to do that for me.

Wherever you go, you’ll see whale sculptures.

Jangsaengpo

Old Town reminding me of old times…I’d like to show my kids this

town as well if I have a chance someday. I’m not sure if they’d

like it though…
