Chueotang (loach in hot bean paste soup) is the most representative food of Namwon. Chueotang is made of ground mudfish with outer leaves or dried radish greens. Dried radish greens and mudfish are common in Namwon since it is located between Jirisan mountain and Seomjingang river. Chueo has been named after gold rice in fall.

There are fourty Chueotang restaurants in Namwon downtown. Most restaurants are in “Chueotang street” next to Gwanghalluwon Garden. “Hyeon Restaurant” is located at the entrance of Chueotang street, and it is popular with many tourists.

Packaging service and parcel delivery service are available as it is the famous must-go restaurant. All ingredients are produced in Korea.

Only menu of Hyeon Restaurant is “Chueotang”. So you just say the number of people at the entrance of the restaurant.

Hot Chueotang and 5~6 side dishes like kimchi and wild vegetables have been served. All of them are nice and fresh.

Chueotang of Hyeon Restaurant doesn't have fishy smell. It was aromatic so my mouth was watering.

As mudfish have been finely ground, you can see only dried radish greens on your eyes. The high quality dried radish greens are fragrant and soft.

Finely ground mudfish has been melt in the soup. It is deep, light and aromatic. Even though mudfish has been finely ground, you can find the bones of it. Don't be surprised!

Chueotang of Namwon is delicious because it is made of Dojo loach, not mudfish. Mudfish and Dojo loach are almost the same, but Dojo loach is more delicious than mudfish. Some people say the taste of Chueotang of Namwon has been changed because it is made of mudfish. Unfortunately, Hyeon Restaurant also uses mudfish, not Dojo loach. But mudfish is delicious thanks to the development of farming technology. Fresh dried radish greens, Taro stem and bracken make Chueotang even more delicious.

You should eat Chueotang with cheongyang red pepper and powdered Japanese prickly ash berry! Hyeon Restaurant uses “Jenpi” instead of powdered Japanese prickly ash berry.

I put Jenpi and cheongyang red pepper like Namwon people do. It is distinctive and delicious. But if you want to enjoy light Chueotang, you should avoid Jenpi.

Chueotang is delicious whether you put rice in it or just eat the soup.

I thought it is quite expensive.(8,000 won) But you can eat unlimitedly. The owner brought a pot when I asked more soup. I ate Chueotang for breakfast and hangover, and it was really nice.

It supplies parcel delivery service as it is a must-go restaurant. It costs 6,000 won. I can do hangover with Chueotang after having a drink. I bought it for my mother in law. You should eat Chueotang if you take a trip to Namwon.
