Damyang is famous for tteok-galbi(Grilled Short Rib Patties) and various foods made of bamboo like bamboo shoot and Daetongbap. And there is famous Changpyeong Pork Tripe and Intestine Soup with Rice restaurant. Changpyeong has been designated to slow city that preserves traditional culture and the nature and pursues slow life. “Gukbap(rice soup)”, which is one of slowfoods, are being sold in 5-day market. Now, here we go!




You should visit Changpyeong traditional market to eat rice soup of Changpyeong. It is a small market, but equpped with free parking lot. And there are a lot of events and products when it is open. It is good to have a meal and enjoy sightseeing.







There is gukbap street right next to Changpyeong traditional market. Some of them was broadcasted on TV programs. Not all of them are delicious, though.







“Original Changpyeong Pork Tripe and Intestine Soup with Rice” restaurant has been loved most for over six decades. It is two minutes far from gukbap street, and located in market shopping center. It was the first gukbap restaurant in Changpyeong traditional market, and has attracted a lot of guests. So it is the original gukbap restaurant, apparently. Unlike other restaurants, it is crowded with a lot of people even after the lunch time.







There are a variety of gukbap in the menu. I like the reasonable price. I ordered gut gukbap and Seonji gukbap. They cost 6,000 won respectively.







You don't need to wait for a long time as gukbap is fastly served. This is Seonji gukbap. My mouth is watering!







Meat broth, seonji(clotted blood from slaughtered cows and pigs), pig gut, rice, spicy sauce(dadaegi) and green onion are put in a big bowl. Rice is served separately if you order. But if not, rice is put in gukbap after toryeom(pouring hot broth over rice a little at a time to heat them up).







I am happy because seonji is so plentiful. Meat broth is so clean, and seonji is aromatic. In particular, seonji is fresh. It is hard outside, but soft inside.







This is gut gukbap that I like. Meat broth, rice, various guts, spicy sauce(dadeagi) and green onion are put in a big boul. Boul is full of ingredients. I love it.







Like seonji gukbap, gut gukbap is so plentiful. Guts are aromatic without order.







Gukbap looks more delicious when you stir spicy sauce. 3~4 kinds of pig guts are so chewy and aromatic. Personally, I prefer gut gukbap to seonji gukbap.







In particular, meat broth is so clean and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Some people hate pig gut gukbap due to odor and aftertaste. But they would like this. I think gukbap is delicious due to the skill and good ingredients. I had a nice meal at reasonable price. I am so happy.







I looked around Changpyeong market thereafter. Fortunately, 5-day market was open. Although Changpyeong traditional market operates year-round, 5-day market opens only in every 5th and 10th of each month. There are a lot of attractions.







As the slow city market, it sells particular products. You can buy eggs from house raising chicken, various traditional sauce, enzyme and dried greens. You should visit the market after having gukbap. I personally want to buy eggs from house raising chicken. :-)
