The tracking course from Yangpyeong Dumulmeori to Munho-ri is the renown course. I think you shouldn't pass by “Munho-ri patjuk(adzuki-bean gruel)”. Patjuk is my favorite seasonal delicacy in winter. The chef of five-star hotel in Seoul also highly praised the restaurant. I visited here to warm myself and taste the famous food. Now, here we go!

“Munho-ri patjuk” is located in the national highway in Hangangjin, Seojong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun. It is close to Seojong IC of Seoul-Chuncheon national highway. And it is easily accessible since it is the ending point of driving road of Bukhangang.

I visited the restaurant at around 3'o clock. But I was so surprised that it was crowded with a lot of customers. It is certain that it is the must-go restaurant. It was so warm and comfortable like a traditional cafe that I easily got warm.

It is certainly patjuk restaurant, but there are a lot of menus like kalguksu and pajeon. We ordered pat kalguksu(Noodle Soup with Red Beans) and eolkeun kalguksu(Spicy Noodle Soup) since we wanted to taste other foods. They cost 9,000 won and 8,000 won respectively.

We were served with pat kalguksu and side dishes first, as it took more time to cook eolkeun kalguksu. Kalguksu was put in thick and fine patjuk.

You should season patjuk with salt and sugar on the table as it has not been seasoned. I put sugar as I like sweet patjuk, personally. But it becomes more sweet with some salt. You must keep that in mind. It would be out of this world!

I tasted patjuk, the representative menu, at first. I admired thick and clean adzuki beans and the soft texture of food. It is too much like hard work since the adzuki beans grain is so hard. But I agree that it is the must go restaurant. It was worthy of admiration.

Some restaurants often put baking soda to soften the hard adzuki beans. But it makes poor patjuk due to the fragrance and the taste of soda. Moreover, it destroys the vitamins of adzuki beans. You would not find the fragrance and the taste of soda from Munho-ri patjuk. It is just so soft and aromatic.

You should put a lot of rice or glutinous rice to make thick porridge. But patjuk of this restaurant is not thick due to the high proportion of adzuki beans. So it is more deep and clean. The noodles of kalguksu were different from average noodles. The thick noodle is chewy and delicious.

As shown in the menu, “red pepper Mallaengi” is on sale, separately. It means that it is so delicious. The color is beautiful and the texture is great as it was made of good chili powder. It would be not so special when you just eat red pepper Mallaengi. But here is a sudden reversal.

It tastes not special when you just eat Mallaengi. But it turns totally different when you eat it with patjuk. It is awesome. The combination of Munho-ri patjuk and red pepper Mallaengi is out of this world! Aromatic and sweet patjuk and spicy and salty Mallaengi are the best. My mouth is watering. I strongly recommend it.

Eolkeun kalguksu has been served right after. Wow! It looks just like jjamppong, huh? I understand why it has been served later than adzuki beans foods. Deep soup, plentiful vegetables and seafood look so delicious.

It seems that it has been boiled with green onions, vegetables and seafood since the soup is a little bit greasy. It would make the taste of jjamppong. Vegetables like green onions, pumpkins and mushrooms, and the seafood like mussels and shrimps look so fresh. I think the food has been seasoned with cheonggukjang or doenjang as I can see some beans.

I ate soup, at first. Wow! It was so spicy! It is so hot even though I already expected it would be hot from the name of the food. I could not understand the taste of the food as I became so hot, sweaty and my mouth was paralyzed. Moreover, I am not good at spicy foods. There would be pros and cons with eolkeun kalguksu. Hot food lovers would like it, but they should keep the fact that it is peppery in mind.

The noodles were thick but chewy just like pat kalguksu. The soup was deep and delicious, and I could taste the flavor of green onions. It was not the representative menu, but it was great.

I think pat kalguksu of Munho-ri patjuk is perfect. But eolkeun kalguksu is not. Hot foods lovers would like it, of course. But it was regretful that I could not taste the food properly due to the large amount of black pepper.
