Many people usually look around mountains, seas, temples and historic sites during the trip. It is good to take a rest in the nature. But looking around crowded street is better sometimes. Suncheon has “Culture street” which looks like Insa-dong, Seoul. It is the best place to have a meal and look around since there are a lot of must-go restaurants, pretty cafes and beautiful buildings.

“Culture street” is located in Haengdong, the downtown of Suncheon. It is good to visit since there are many famous tourist attractions of Suncheon such as Suncheonman Bay National Park, filming sites nearby. Ginkgo trees form long lines on both sides at the entrance of “Culture street”. It is popular tourist attraction because it turns golden street with fallen yellow ginkgo leaves in late October.

I saw a beautiful building. I thought it was a church or cathedral as it had a sharp roof. But it was a design company, in fact. “Culture street” is the best place to take a picture as it is clean and has a lot of beautiful architectures.

It is the must-go restaurant for tteok-galbi(Grilled Short Rib Patties) at the entrance of “Culture street”. It is cost reasonable, and the beautiful country house. I visited to have a breakfast, but it was not open, unfortunately. But my wife took a picture of herself with ivies in the background for a while.

A store has a lot of antiques, which looks like that of Insa-dong, Seoul.

“Culture street” has a number of distinctive stores. You can draw a picture on mug cups, and have a tea in Alley market.

Pretty stores line along ginkgo tree street. The phone booth gathering telephones in 1960s and 1970s is so popular that it appeared in the famoust TV program “one night two days”.

I

said there are a lot of must-go restaurants in “Culture street”,

and one famous small octopus food restaurant is located in the middle

of the street. It is more popular with local people of Suncheon since

it is cost reasonable and delicious. You must look around beautiful

garden nearby the restaurant after having a meal. I also visited here

to have a breakfast, but it was not open.

This is “The afternoon of a workroom” where the owner, the painter, makes pasta by himself. It is one of the must-go restaurants in Suncheon, so it has appeared in various media. Not only the pasta is delicious, but the art works in and out of the restaurant are so attractive.

I don't know what menus are sold in this restaurant. But I want to enter there due to its antique windows. The edges of the windows are decorated with beautiful mosaic tiles.

There is a complex cultural space called “Korean-style house school” at the end of ginkgo tree street. Anyone can participate in various cultural experience events.

Although it is short, ginkgo tree street has hidden alleys on both sides. Why don't you look around interesting streets like “love blossoming street”, “couple street” and “cat street” in this Honam intersection?

Murals cannot be excluded in the beautiful street, huh? I wanted to have a tea while appreciating murals, but the store wasn't open, unfortunately.

One funny store makes me confuse an electric wire with a fishing line.

I thought the street was so beautiful, and it was “love blossoming street”, in fact. People would fall in love while walking the street with their arms folded.

This is “Honam broadcasting radio station. You can send a song request, take a picture and send postcards on weekends or national holiday. I wonder how it would be on air.

There is a red gate with spiked top at the end of “love blossoming street”, so I walk along the street.

There is Suncheon hyanggyo (the Confucian temple and school to teach local students in the Joseon Dynasty period) at a dead end. The huge ginkgo tree on the left side of the picture is 200 years old. It is a little bit stink, but it would be really beautiful in late October.

The front gate of hyanggyo is always closed. So you should enter the small entrance after passing by the narrow alley on the left side of the front gate. It looks like the old street. So I feel like return to my childhood with time machine. Every alley looked like this at that time.

Suncheon hyanggyo is small sized. Anyone can enter and look around it. But you must be quiet since it enshrines the tablets of great Confucian scholars.

It is good to look around, but it is better to take a rest on toenmaru(narrow wooden porch running along the outside of a room).

Hyanggyo was my last destination in Culture street. It was short but fun. It was the good place to take a picture and look around as there were a lot of pretty stores, culture experience centers, flowers and distinctive items. Moreover, there were many must-go restaurants and cafes. Why don't you drop by here while heading to Suncheonman bay national park or filming sites?
