Seoho market

After the night, we went out to the terrace to wait for the sunrise. The blue sky and red sun seemed as if they were having a color fight.

We went to Seoho market in the early morning. The west side of the lake is Seoho-dong and the east side of the lake is called Dongho-dong. On the west side of the lake, which is the place we are at, has a Ferry Terminal where ferries come and go to the several islands of the South Sea. Across the Ferry Terminal is the Seoho market. According to the information paper in the room of Marina resort, Bunso restaurant in this place is famous for tasty wormwood soups. The price is 15,000 won for one soup, not that cheap but they catch a living flounder right next to the shop. You can enjoy the wormwood soup with a soft and fresh whole flounder in it. It’s a popular restaurant in a corner of the market, so it was busy in the early morning too, most of the customers were residents who came to relieve hangover.

The market place on the way back, after our meal. There were smiles on the faces of the people starting their day’s business, spreading their parasols. I was impressed by their wisdom of life, starting their hard day with hope.

Hansan island Jeseungdang Shrine

The spring of Jeseungdang Shrine was beautiful. The forecastle we had seen on the way entering had the grandness of a fortress. On the way round to the place in Hansan island, were camellia flowers. They are said to fall on the ground and shine again.

Passing the first gate to Jeseungdang Shrine I looked up and saw the red leaves coloring the blue sky, red like the blood of Admiral. I felt the piety in my heart.

I imagined the picture of general Yi Sun-Shin sitting at the forecastle alone, planning and worrying about the great fight he will have the following day. His diary, A War Diary, is said that it was written the most time on this forecastle.

Jeseungdang Shrine. The meaning of the Chinese Character is ‘The tower that controls victory’. The background of general Yi Sun-Shin’s victory is this tower.

On the yacht, on the way back after looking around Hansan island started the Hansan fight between the seagulls. The dynamic fight between the eager seagulls trying to eat the cookies thrown by people on the yacht was interesting.

Tongyeong Masan Raw-fish restaurant

There are many cases when someone tries to visit a famous local restaurant at a tourist site after a long surf on the internet, but turns out that the place isn’t that good and infamous to the residents.

I also worry that some people visiting this website also think the same, but this restaurant is a place I always visited to have a meal whenever I come to Tongyeong. I believe the restaurant is good and fundamentally well, so I write again in my review-log.

We had visited to try flounder wormwood soup at Bunso restaurant in Seoho market, and Haewon seafood restaurant to try its Assorted Sliced Raw Fish. And also it’s the place Lee Myung-Bak previous president had visited, also listed on the information pamphlet in Marina resort. After the disappointment in Haewon, we went to Masan Raw-fish restaurant to try flounder wormwood soup(to compare with Bunso restaurant), Dark banded rockfish spicy fish stew, sea squirt bibimbap and roasted Dark banded rockfish at lunchtime the next day.

They serve anchovy raw-fish for service, and comparing to the Spiced anchovies in Haewon seafood restaurant it was less spicy and less salty, the anchovy’s taste was alive.

As for the flounder wormwood soup, Bunso restaurant had put too much salt in it that we had to put down our spoons before we even managed to eat half of the soup. But the soup here wasn’t salty, and the wormwood smell was temptating us from the first scoop. I guess the best menu here is roasted Dark banded rockfish and sea squirt bibimbap.

Jinju and Tongyeong is the travel from the hurtful memory of the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, to the victory against the Japanese army which held at the front sea of Hansan island. Also, it’s the travel of food, as the place is full of delicious food including Jinju naengmyeon, flounder wormwood soup, sea squirt bibimbap, various seafoods, and Tongyeong honey bread. It was a great travel of the south region of Korea, better than travelling abroad.
